We are in a unique position here today. I think all of us in this room would agree that life, all life, is sacred. But the world is painting a different picture, especially regarding our unborn.
The world tells us these precious souls are merely an inconvenient lump of tissue that can be discarded on a whim. The world would have us believe that only embryonic stem cells from these lumps of tissue can cure diseases we face today; therefore this atrocity called abortion must continue. They would have us believe pregnancy can be an invasion of a woman’s life and her right to party or move up the career ladder. Therefore she should have a choice to terminate her child’s life. The world would have us believe that women who choose abortion move on and never think about it again.
We know better! In Jeremiah 1:5 God says, “Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you; before you were born, I sanctified you.” God has a plan for each and every life. A baby is a life from the beginning, no matter what science and the world say. Science has made incredible progress in recent years, but now they are saying we must murder one life to save another or improve the quality of someone else’s life. They won’t tell you that many of these same things can be achieved with stem cells from living adults. Pro-choice. We hear it all the time. No one would say they are pro-abortion, they are all pro-choice. Well, so am I. A woman chooses by the decisions she makes before she conceives, not after. So many people think abortion is a brief out-patient surgical procedure that leaves no lasting scars or effects. Again, we know better. Countless women have come looking for relief for the shame and guilt they feel over a child they aborted years ago. They ache for the children they killed. They live with emotional scars that won’t go away. They hear their children crying, but it is too late to comfort them.
We have just heard “A Baby’s Prayer . . .” a voice for the unborn. (The song is A Baby’s Prayer by Kathy Troccoli. Check www.christianbook.com or some such website to listen to the song.)
Today I don’t have to tell you abortion is wrong. You know that! I don’t have to tell you abortion is murder. You know that too! I don’t have to tell you this atrocity must stop. You would all agree. But I would ask you this. What are you doing about it? Will you speak out against this blight on our society? Will you go forward from here with a determination to do your part? Whether it’s volunteering at a crisis pregnancy center, helping a woman cope with the effects from an abortion already done, or publicly speaking out, we all have a role to play. We must speak for those who cannot speak for themselves. We must be the voice of the unborn.
We look around us today and see our children. All ages and sizes. All beautiful. All with immeasurable potential. Looking at these beautiful faces today none of us would say they are not worthy of life. Yet women are making that choice every day. The blood of millions of innocent children is on the hands of the church because we have chosen to do nothing. The time has come to rise up and counter the voice of the world with the voice of God. We must be the voice of the unborn.
For You formed my inward parts;
You covered me in my mother’s womb.
14I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.
15My frame was not hidden from You,
When I was made in secret,
And skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.
